.: FAQs
Q: When should I consider cosmetic dentistry?
A:When you feel that you need to improve the appearance of your smile. Dental cosmetics will change your entire appearance. If you are unhappy about the color or shape of your teeth; want to tighten teeth gaps; or if you simply would like to cover up imperfections, cosmetic dentistry is a good solution.
Q: Who would be a good candidate for cosmetic dentistry?
A: People who are not satisfied with their current smile. Their smiles may have the appearance of stains from coffee, or teeth that may be crooked or gapped. These individuals are ideal candidates who often achieve immediate results.
Q: Will I experience any pain?
A: We use advanced technology such as micro-air abrasion and computerized injection systems to minimize sensitivity and discomfort during all cosmetic procedures.

Our New York City and Queens offices offer BriteSmile® laser teeth whitening, the quick and easy way to a brighter smile. In-office whitening can be performed in a single session, which may take as little as an hour. It is often more convenient than at-home whitening kits, which require patients to wear mouth guards filled with a bleaching agent for a few hours at a time over the course of several weeks.
During the BriteSmile® in-office procedure, the teeth are cleaned and examined. Then, a plastic mouth guard is placed over the gums that surround the teeth to be treated. This prevents the whitener from affecting the soft tissues of the mouth. Finally, a special light-activated whitening agent is applied to the teeth. This product contains carbamide peroxide in a stronger concentration than any over-the-counter whitening product can provide. When a laser light is applied to the teeth, the whitener bleaches the organic part of the tooth enamel that may have faded or picked up stains over the years.
Our Queens and New York City teeth whitening patients notice the results of treatment immediately. However, persistent discoloration may require additional visits, and regular coffee drinkers or smokers may require treatment again if stains return.

Many of our New York City and Queens patients find that porcelain veneers, sometimes referred to as laminates, offer a quick and easy solution for smile enhancement. Whether your teeth are badly stained, chipped, cracked, or misaligned, porcelain veneers we can help you to achieve a bright, attractive smile. Veneers are perfect for enhancing the color of your teeth, concealing dental imperfections, closing gaps between teeth, and correcting misalignments without the long treatment time involved with orthodontic treatment. Dental veneers are custom-made to fit your teeth and can create a long-lasting, attractive appearance. Veneers are reserved only for the interior or front teeth, are the thickness of a fingernail, and will be color-matched to your natural teeth. The teeth require relatively little preparation before veneers are placed; generally only about one-half millimeter of enamel is removed from the front surfaces of the teeth. Usually patients need little or no anesthetic during this dental visit, though for especially nervous patients we do offer sleep sedation dentistry options to reduce our patients’ fears of cosmetic dentistry treatments. After the new veneers are made, we will verify that the size, shape, and color of the veneers are correct, and the dentist will firmly bond them to your teeth with a special cement. With proper care, porcelain veneers can last for years.

Tooth-colored fillings are a natural-looking option for treating decayed or defective teeth. Since they match the natural tooth color, they are virtually indistinguishable. Made of ceramic composites, they can be placed with the same ease as silver fillings. In a single visit, the dentist removes any tooth decay, prepares the tooth with an acid solution and then a bonding agent, and applies the composite filler. Next, a catalytic light is used to harden the filling, which is then polished.

When teeth are cracked or decayed, crowns can offer protection while restoring strength. Crowns can also be placed on teeth after root canal therapy to offer additional support. Since crowns are made of tooth-colored material, they look natural and are virtually unnoticeable. In short, crowns can improve the health, strength, and appearance of damaged teeth.
